Why I am Boobless After Breast Implant Illness | Lacey Marie | TEDxIdahoFalls

injuries No Comments »

NOTE FROM TED: Please consult a medical professional and do not look to this to as a substitute for medical advice. The health effects of breast implants remain an emerging field of study. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/tedx_content_guidelines.pdf

As women, there are parts of us that inform our sense of feeling divinely feminine, and our own bodies are often emblematic of our womanhood. So what happens when a significant aspect of your own body turns toxic? Confronted with that very reality, Lacie Marie made the difficult decision to not only have her breast implants removed due to toxicity, but also chose to have her entire breasts removed because of genetic markers for cancer. Lacie Marie shares her amazing story of making the difficult decision, learning how to accept herself and reclaim her femininity beyond the social expectations of how a woman is “supposed” to be shaped. Boobless and Fabuless is her mantra. Lacey Marie believes flatter is better. After years of dealing with seemingly random health issues and being near death, she discovered it was all connected to the size of her breasts. Lacey learned she had Breast Implant Illness, plus two genetic markers for breast cancer so she made the decision to have both her implants and her breast removed.

Through this process, she realized there’s a gross lack of resources and support for Breast Implant Illness, which has empowered her to use her story and advocate for more women to become Boobless and Fabuless. Strep throat (streptococcal pharyngitis)- pathophysciology, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, treatment

“GAS or streptococcus pyogenes is the most common bacterial cause of acute tonsillitis.
Here is a mouth with pharyngotonsilitis, inflammation of both the pharynx and tonsils. Here is a photo of bacterial tonsillitis. Pharyngotonsillitis caused by GAS is sometimes referred to as strep throat. The majority of episodes of pharyngitis are caused by viral infections which are usually treated conservatively. However, early recognition of s.pyogenes is important since failure to appropriately treat strep throat may lead to GAS complications. Unfortunately, distinguishing between viral and bacteria can be difficult.

The group a streptococcus are beta haemolytic cocci able to produce some exotoxins and also contain many surface antigens that play a vital role in its pathophysiology such as m proteins. Transmission of strep throat is through saliva and nasal secretion from an infected person.”

1 out of 4 people suffer from mental illness. Look around you, and chances are out of the closest 3 people, 1 of you may be suffering from mental illness. Elizabeth speaks volumes from her own experience battling mental illness and how it is not a personal problem, but a communal one for which we are all responsible to address.

Elizabeth is a junior at the University of Texas at Austin studying Chemistry. She is a pre-medical student hoping to one day run her own practice and use a combination of diet, therapy, and medicine to heal the physical and psychological wounds of her patients. Mental illness, also known as mental health disorders, refers to a wide range of mental health problems that affect your mood, thinking, and behavior for a sustained period of time. Depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders, and addictive behaviors are examples of mental illnesses that can have a long-lasting impact on you. Are you wondering if your mental health is deteriorating? Do you remember the last time you felt sad, anxious, or scared that you were somehow “off”?

As a disclaimer, do not use this video to self diagnose. These are more like warning signs that you should not ignore. Use them as a guide when talking to a professional when explaining how you are feeling.

3 drug free remedies for knee pain you may not of heard of

joint No Comments »

Three drug-free remedies for knee pain you may not have heard of.

1. Pulsed electromagnetic frequency (worn)
2. Collagen protein (ingested)
3. Cetylated fatty acid (topical)

Knee pain is one of the most common pains in the body. It can occur from injury, post-surgically, or with repeated stress.

Common knee conditions are sprained ligament, meniscus or cartilage damage, tendonitis, bursitis, or wear and tear related to arthritis. Some people can develop knee pain caused by an irritated nerve in the back. Symptoms can include pain, swelling, stiffness, clicking, and popping. 700,000 meniscus surgeries are performed per year despite 3 randomized controlled trials showing no benefit vs sham surgery or PT. A similar number of knee replacements are performed each year in the U.S. One third of knee replacement patients continue to have pain and one in five is dissatisfied with the results.

The three drug free remedies discussed are:

1. Pulsed electromagnetic frequency
Actipatch- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26235410, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31140929, LBP https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27910725

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26705327
Low levels of electromagnetic radiation, charge the mitochondria, increase cellular energy, reduce inflammatory chemicals.
PEMF could alleviate pain and improve physical function for patients with knee and hand OA

2. Collagen

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22500661
Collagen peptides
Hydrolyzed collagen peptides
Source from bones, hide, eggshell membrane, fish collagen
10g-12g/day in coffee, water, or smoothies

3. Cetylated fatty acid cream

`Reduced pro-inflammatory cytokine levels, changes in membrane fluidity and signal transduction pathways reducing the proteoglycan degrading enzyme activity, and release of leukotriene B4 from neutrophils have been hypothesized.
-it can be safely prescribed as self- and on-demand treatment.
-In conclusion, the administration of topical CFA may mitigate the most common symptoms in knee OA.
-Findings suggest that topical CFA is effective in all knee OA patients with slightly higher evidence for those with advanced disease.
Dose; apply twice a day, 1-2 mos

If not of these help after 1-2 months then it may not be the treatment for you.
