One of the scariest moments as a parent is when your child or baby has their first fever. Know when to call a doctor and when to consider home remedies to help treat a fever.
Some reasons to call a doctor include:
• Your baby is younger than 3 months old and has a fever higher than 100.4°F
• Your child of any age has a fever higher than 104.0°F
• He has other symptoms like an earache, vomiting, severe sore throat, or unexplained rash
• The fever lasts more than 24 hours in a child under 2 years old, or more than 72 hours in a child 2 years or older
There are ways you can help at home in the meantime. Learn how to reduce a fever and keep your baby cool and comfortable with these simple steps:
• Make sure your baby drinks plenty of fluids
• While you never want to force them, kids can eat while they have a fever
• You can give your child a lukewarm bath to cool the fever. Take your baby out of the bath if they start to shiver.
