Here is a low back facet joint mobilization technique that often helps with low back pain. Posterior to anterior or PA spinal mobilizations are one of my favorite techniques for treating patients with unilateral or one-sided back pain.

When performing this technique, I start at the bottom of the lumbar spine (L5-S1) and work up one segment at a time until I reach the bottom of the thoracic spine (T12).

This is done first as an assessment to determine if the patient’s symptoms can be reproduced with the mobilization pressure/movement. In many cases, familiar pain is reproduced at one or two spinal levels and then those levels are mobilized further.

When mobilizing (checkout the Thumb Saver tool to protect your thumbs) a painful level, small oscillations are delivered to the painful area at an intensity that is perceived to be therapeutic by the patient. I will usually perform the mobilization for 1-2 minutes and perform 3-5 sets of the technique.

    • LIVING WITH CONSTANT JOINT PAIN FROM ANASTROZOLE

      joint No Comments »

Hands up if you are struggling with bone pain! 🙌🏻

Last week a fellow cancer survivor was telling me about how she really struggled to get in any exercise! You see, her body felt like it was 90 years old (but she was only 48!). Everytime she got up from her desk or out of bed – she felt like garbage. Everything ached. How could she possibly exercise when she feels like this?

After going through chemo myself, I completely understood how she felt. My entire body felt completely insulted. Before cancer, I loved to run, lift weights, I was the picture of health. Was I ever going to get back to this?

      Sound familiar?

It wasn’t until I discovered how to fuel my body for cancer recovery that I actually started feel less like an old lady (and more like myself again! YAH!). You can do it too! You just need to what foods and exercise your body needs for support to be able to overcome the joint pain.

If you are ready to have less pain and start recognizing yourself again, I’m here to help! Join the Cancer Freedom Program.

A new registry at HSS is following cancer patients who’ve developed inflammatory arthritis as a result of treatment with checkpoint inhibitors. The research is helping clinicians understand how to treat this condition without interfering with the anticancer effects of therapy. Hear from rheumatologists Anne Bass, MD, and Karmela Chan, MD, on the goals of the registry and what they hope to learn.
